Be Compassionate

A 4-frame self-acceptance webcomic strip featuring colorful heart characters. Upper Left: A pink heart character is watching a red heart remove a gold picture frame from a wall. There are 2 frames stacked on top of each other on the floor. The picture frame the red heart is removing includes the text: You are so lazy! There are 3 more picture frames on the floor leaning against the wall featuring positive statements: I am good enough. I know what I’m doing. I deserve rest. Text above the pink heart reads: Hey, what’s going on? Upper Right: The red heart character turns to look at the pink heart character. The 3 picture frames featuring positive statements are still on the floor leaning against the wall. Text above the red heart reads: I’m reframing my thoughts. Lower Left: The pink heart character is now helping the red heart hang the frames featuring positive statements. The pink heart hangs the one featuring the statement: I am good enough. The red heart hangs the one featuring the statement: I deserve rest.. Text above the pink heart reads: Is it working? Text above the red heart reads: Yep! Lower Right: both the pink and red heart characters hang the picture frame featuring the statement: I know what I’m doing. Text above the red heart reads: I’m already being more compassionate with myself!

The original version of this comic looked a little different than the one you’re seeing.

The legs weren’t where they were supposed to be in the last 2 frames. And the picture frames were a bit more colorful. This made the spoken text overlapping the frames a little hard to read.

But I posted it anyway. (it’s still on instagram.)

Past Dominique would’ve fixated on that last frame!

I would’ve spent entirely too much time trying to redesign the entire comic.

I would’ve gotten behind on my deadlines.

And then, I would’ve been upset with myself for not getting things done when I planned.

I also would’ve worried about what my art director and design peers thought about it. I would’ve convinced myself it was “bad design”.

Realizing that while working on this particular comic made me smile because I didn’t do any of those things.

I just made sure it was legible enough before I decided to call it a day.

I caught myself being compassionate in real time!

What would it mean for you to be more compassionate with yourself?
